There is no human being on earth with perfect insight into what is. We’re all partially blind. All leadership is done by people with some blindness.
A leader who knows they don’t see everything will wisely ask other people what they’re experiencing and work with the information that comes back because they realize it’s the only way they could ever hope to get a picture of a world beyond their own limited experience.
The beautiful thing is that, in our blindness, we all have slightly different access to the world. We stand in different places and see and hear and feel different things. So if we’re aware of our blindness and open to hearing from each other, we can find our way together.
So if I really want to have a positive impact beyond myself, my first order of business is to recognize that I am blind to anything outside my own limited perspective, that I cannot know the way for anyone but me.
And recognize that the only way to find the way for everyone is to find it with everyone.
