Regret requires a future.

Regret requires a future.

Without a stressful future, there’s no way to regret the past.

Regrets about a past REQUIRE a stressful future:

  • worrying about what people will think of something I believe I did poorly,

  • stressing about how a mistake may come back to haunt me,

  • thinking about whether someone will suffer because of my decision.

  • Projecting that I will feel bad a second from now and will continue feeling bad about what I’ve done.

These are where regrets get their fuel:

Conversely, if you told me right now, that ONLY GOOD could come of the things in my past that I am inclined to regret - that directly because of the things I’m inclined to regret, God and every person on earth will rejoice, give thanks and live the rest of their existence singing my praises in perfect peace and harmony - would I regret them?

Regret requires a stressful future.

And the only place a past or future can exist is in my mind.
